No, seriously… do you have the personality for it? Let’s be real, in this industry you’re going to be handling some of the most important events that people center their calendar years and even entire lives around. As if that isn’t stressful enough, throw in the colorful personalities and even more colorful obstacles that will be catapulted 100 miles an hour at you, and you need to be the picture of cool, calm and collected. Literally. If you’re just starting out and are looking to gain insight into the industry, do a little introspection first and see if you meet the criteria to be a successful event and wedding planner:
1. Be Organized
I feel like this should really go without explaining, but this is essentially the whole reason why people hire wedding and event planners in the first place! We know exactly how to handle an immeasurable amount of detail and information and organize it into a successful event. Being organized is at the height of most important qualities to have in order to do well in this industry; say it with me: “Lists and sublists are my friends.” You’re going to be juggling time-sensitive information from multiple clients, and everyone has their own system they eventually figure out works best for them, but what works well for me is writing everything down and making bullet-point lists breaking down my tasks into smaller, condensed projects that are easy to tackle.
